I’m Metta Dwyer (she/her), owner and founder of Lovingkindness Doulas. My road to becoming a doula has been long and more than a little winding. I worked as a movie projectionist, a marketing assistant, a lawyer (yes, you read that right—I used to be a lawyer), a news aggregator, and a freelance writer, among other odd jobs for about 20 years before finding my passion. I finally know that what I’m being called to do as my profession is help parents and families through one of the most profound transitions of their life.
As a queer person, I’m particularly passionate about supporting queer birthing people, especially trans and non-binary birthing people, as well as others who are frequently left out of birthing conversations, such as surrogates, adoptive parents, and birthing people who are planning to place their child for adoption. I am also committed to serving the BIPOC community not only by providing doula services, but by amplifying the BIPOC doulas in our community so that every person who wants a doula can have the option of finding one who shares their background and culture. All of that being said, I am thrilled and excited to support every single birth, no matter what.
